Magheragall Parish Church - 175 Years Celebration

On the 25th May 2006 we had an evening service to celebrate 175 years of worship in our church, invitations had been sent to our neighbouring churches and it was encouraging to see such a good response. After the service each person was given a balloon as they left church and tied to the balloon was a small verse of scripture from the Gospel of John. We were asked to encircle the church with balloon still in hand and at the shout from Nicholas everyone released their balloon.

Below are a few photographs taken on the evening.

After the balloon launch tea was served in the Parish Hall.

Abseiling At Magheragall

As part of the celebrations the CLCGB held a fund raising event and some brave members and friends abseiled over the side of the church. See below some photographs from the abseil and balloon launch.

Magheragall Rector takes service in Rathlin

As part of our 175 Celebrations the Rambling Club organised a day out to Rathlin Island on Sunday 11th June, when 74 members of the congregation attended morning service in St Thomas, Rathlin, taken by the Rev Nicholas Dark. Alex Wylie, a spokesman for the Ramblers said, “Three walks were organised covering routes to all three lighthouses including the bird sanctuary. It was a wonderful day out, blessed with a Church Service, great weather and a cool breeze resulting in well tanned and sunburnt faces.”

Balloon Travels!

You will remember that the balloons released after the Birthday Service on 4th June had a tag containing the words of Jesus and an e-mail address. A means of sending God's message into the world.

This response came in on 6 June :- "Congratulations on 175 years and greetings from St. Mary's, Upton, Wirral, Merseyside. My wife and I found a red balloon with John 10 V 27, 28 this evening on the beach between Hilbre Island and the mainland at Hoylake, home of the Open Golf Tournament next month. Check out the TV coverage and see just where the balloon landed! Like your web site and the idea of the balloons. Yours in Christ, Sue and Phil Geddes" How wonderful to get feedback!
